Hi, is there anything that will remove scars from Discoid Lupus?
Hey Michele,
The problem with lupus is that anything injected or done to treat the scarring (like laser resurfacing) can cause further problems if the lupus isn’t under control. In general, it’s best to make sure with your dermatologist that the process is stable for some time before intervening. Having said that, after getting approval from a dermatologist, I have in the past injected hyaluronic acid-based fillers (restylane or juvederm) under depressed scars to improve the contour. The color is more difficult to address and frequently is left alone in favor of improved contour.
Hope this helps,
Dr. Sethna
