April 28, 2015 – Nicole Turgeon, MD
April is National Donate Life Month. This month highlights the growing need for organ and tissue donation, and provides a positive reminder for people to sign up to become organ donors. In honor of Donate Life month, Dr. Nicole Turgeon of the Emory Transplant Center held a live chat to answer questions about organ donation, including how many people are currently waiting for an organ, what organs can be donated, and who can donate. She also discussed paired donor exchange – what it is, how it works and how paired donor exchange is helping patients get a second chance at life. If you are interested in learning more about organ donation and how paired donor exchange works, check out the full transcript of the chat.
April 8, 2014 – Nicole Turgeon, MD
We’ve all read the recent headlines about multiple person kidney swaps and the lives changed because of generous donors. With nearly 100,000 people in the United States waiting on a kidney transplant, Emory has doubled down on its efforts to raise the awareness and incidence of living and paired donation. Emory began its Kidney Paired Donor Exchange Program in 2010 and has been participating in the National Kidney Registry since 2012. Dr. Nicole Turgeon of the Emory Transplant Center recently held a live chat where she discussed how paired donor exchange works, what it takes to become a donor and how paired donor exchange is helping patients get a second chance at a healthy life. If you’re interested in learning more about the Paired Donor Exchange Program at Emory, check out the chat transcript.
