Facial Rejuvenation Procedures with Short Downtimes

When you think of facial rejuvenation, you probably think of a traditional “facelift.” But in reality, there’s a large range of cosmetic procedures that can have you looking great with far less downtime. If you want a radiant, youthful look without a long recovery period, consider minimally invasive or nonsurgical facial rejuvenation techniques.

Big Impact with Little Recovery Time

There are several facial rejuvenation procedures that offer great results with hardly any downtime. They can be performed in the office using topical or local anesthesia, and they can yield long-term or even permanent results.

Botox®

Botulinum toxin injections (Botox is the most common brand) are used to treat dynamic wrinkles and lines that appear when we make certain facial expressions. The injection takes just a few minutes and there’s no downtime — you can go right back to work. It takes about seven days to see the full results and it lasts for three to four months, depending on how strong your facial expressions are.

Botox injections are commonly used to treat:

  • Chin dimples
  • “Crow’s feet” (the small wrinkles that develop next to your eyes when smiling)
  • Downward turned corners of the mouth
  • Forehead lines
  • Muscle (platysma) bands on the neck
  • “The elevens” (the two vertical lines that appear in the middle of your eyebrows)

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable products used to improve deep wrinkles and volume loss in the face. There are different types of dermal fillers. The most common and safe products are made of hyaluronic acids (HAs). Fillers can reshape your face and “lift” the tissues, improve facial symmetry and highlight facial contours. Results usually last from six months to a year.

Fillers are commonly used to:

  • Fill in tear troughs (undereye)
  • Hide dark circles
  • Plump the upper cheeks
  • Reshape the lips or jaw line

Lip Lift

As we age, our upper lip tends to get longer and flatter. A lip lift permanently reshapes the lip to give it a shapelier appearance. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and involves a small cut under the base of the nose. The cut is hidden beneath the nostrils, leaving no obvious scarring. Some bruising and swelling are common for a few days after the procedure, and stitches need to be removed about a week after surgery.

Chin Liposuction

If you’re concerned about your “double chin,” you may want to consider local liposuction. The area to be treated is numbed with local anesthetic and a small instrument is used to remove excess fat and sculpt the neck. The procedure can be performed in the office and usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Results are immediate and permanent. There will be swelling and bruising in the area, but you can typically return to work and normal activities within a few days.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) rejuvenates the upper lids by treating excess skin and puffiness. Your surgeon removes excess skin and fat from your eyelids and tightens the tissues. This procedure is commonly performed under local anesthesia and takes about 45 minutes. Small incisions are made in the natural creases of your eyelid, so the scar can be hidden. Bruising and swelling is expected for a few days after the procedure. Ice and anti-inflammatory medicines are used to speed up recovery.

Chemical Peels

Chemical facial peels improve skin texture, fine lines and discoloration. They work by removing several superficial layers of skin and stimulating collagen production. There are different peels that penetrate the skin at different levels. Superficial peels require just a few days of recovery. Deeper peels may require a few weeks recovery but provide longer-lasting results.
