Is Liquid Rhinoplasty Right for Me?

liquid rhinoplastyWhile rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed worldwide, it can be extremely complex. Liquid rhinoplasty, on the other hand, offers a nonsurgical option to help improve the shape of your nose while avoiding costly surgery and a long recovery.

This relatively new, nonsurgical alternative may not be the best solution for everyone, though. That’s why it’s important to consult with a cosmetic surgeon before deciding between liquid or surgical rhinoplasty. During a consultation, you’ll be able to ask questions, share concerns and discuss the outcomes you hope to achieve — all of which will help you make the best possible decision.

What is Liquid Rhinoplasty?

Nonsurgical rhinoplasty involves using dermal fillers (also used in many other facial procedures to reverse signs of aging) to fill in or lift parts of the nose. This form of injectable can “plump up” targeted areas, as well as reshape and lift tissue — for example, to fill in the area around a pronounced bump on the bridge of the nose or to help lift the tip of the nose.

How is Liquid Rhinoplasty Performed?

During the procedure, your doctor will apply numbing cream to the target area. Then, when you’re ready, will inject the filler. Because your doctor will only inject a small amount at a time, you may need multiple appointments to achieve your desired changes. Administering only a little bit of the filler at a time will help ensure the changes are incremental, and can reduce the risk of complications.

The procedure typically takes less than an hour. Since it doesn’t involve any incisions or anesthesia, you’ll be able to go home immediately after the procedure. You can also return to normal activities a short time later.

Is Liquid Rhinoplasty Permanent?

Cosmetic injectables are not permanent. While most dermal fillers last around six to nine months, because the nose doesn’t move as much as other parts of the face, most people see results that last 12-18 months.

Once the results start to diminish, you can see your doctor for another session to maintain your appearance.

How Do I Know if Liquid Rhinoplasty is Right for Me?

If you’re looking to make mild to moderate changes to your nose, liquid rhinoplasty may be a great choice for you. It may also be a good first step for someone wanting to try out changes before deciding on surgery.

When considering a cosmetic procedure of any type, one practical consideration is often expense. Since liquid rhinoplasty is more affordable than traditional rhinoplasty, you may likely consider it first. But it’s important to remember that multiple treatments can add up to be just as expensive as a surgical procedure.

You’ll also want to keep in mind that while some issues can be easily corrected with liquid rhinoplasty, others may require surgery. For example, dermal fillers cannot fix internal nasal issues, such as a deviated septum. Results from liquid rhinoplasty are also temporary and not as dramatic as traditional, surgical rhinoplasty.

For all of these reasons, it’s important to discuss your concerns and options with a cosmetic surgeon before deciding on any type of aesthetic procedure. Be sure to have an open and honest conversation with your doctor about what you want to achieve, as well as the limitations and risks of each procedure.
