How to Get the Healthiest Looking Skin

There are certain things that everyone can do at home to improve the appearance of their skin. Simple lifestyle habits such as getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water and applying sunscreen daily are three of the most impactful. But why stop there? If you want to see real results, then don’t go at it alone — that’s what the experts are for.

Consult a Skincare Expert

Unfortunately, there’s no one-size-fits-all skincare regimen. If there were, the skincare section at the store would sure be a whole lot smaller. Because your skin is unique, you need a skincare routine that addresses your specific needs. That’s where partnering with an expert can make a world of difference.

A qualified aesthetician gets to know your skin and what it needs. They can help you sort through the plethora of products out there and guide you to the ones that will work best for your skin. Having a knowledgeable skincare partner will also come in handy when it comes time to navigate the changes that naturally occur as you age. Even just choosing the right retinol cream and how to apply it can feel overwhelming. An aesthetician can guide you toward the most appropriate non-surgical anti-aging procedures to help you achieve your desired results.

Make Time for Daily, Monthly and Yearly Skincare Treatments

You can probably think of daily, monthly and yearly tasks you perform to protect your health, but what about your skin? At Emory Aesthetic Center, your aesthetician can get you started with a simple daily routine to jumpstart your skincare with a combination of medical-grade skincare products. We also offer a variety of facials for monthly maintenance and countless other procedures that will keep you looking fantastic.

Invest in Your Skin Health with a Laser Treatment Plan

You’ll find some of the best laser treatment options in Atlanta at the Emory Aesthetic Center. We offer CoolSculpting® for fat reduction, laser hair removal, skin resurfacing and more. During your skin analysis, your aesthetician will review all your options and help you create a yearly plan to address your specific concerns and goals.

Chemical Peels: Restore Your Skin with a Facial or Body Peel

chemical peelYou put your best face forward every day as you meet all of life’s challenges. While you probably realize environmental factors such as air quality, makeup or sweat can affect the health of your skin, you may be surprised to learn that mental factors, like stress, can also have a significant impact.

Your skin is extremely resilient, but sometimes it’s best to start fresh. A chemical facial peel is one of the most versatile procedures to improve your skin’s health and glow.

What is a chemical peel?

A facial peel treats skin with a chemical solution that’s applied to your face. This solution exfoliates your skin, removing dead or unhealthy skin cells and revealing the new and rejuvenated skin beneath.

Chemical peels are given in the office and you may go home immediately following your procedure. Additional peeling, redness or sensitivity can sometimes happen for up to five to 10 days after the peel is applied — and will usually go away on their own.

Who is a good candidate for a chemical peel?

There are many different types of chemical peels to address your unique skin issues. Chemical peels are generally safe and have few side effects. You may want to consider a peel if you have:

  • Acne scars
  • Age spots
  • Aging skin
  • Crow’s feet
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Scars
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Wrinkles

Of course, it’s always best to discuss treatment options with a qualified aesthetic provider before having any cosmetic procedures. He or she can help you decide which procedures are right for you.

What is my downtime with a facial peel?

Most superficial facial peels have little downtime and only minor side effects, such as redness and slight swelling. In-depth peels that remove the top tissue of skin may require several days of rest and recovery. Crusting and scabbing may occur after deep peels — it’s important to care for your skin properly and avoid touching your face.

Will I need multiple treatment sessions?

Some peels may call for a series of treatments, depending on the type of peel and desired results. When several treatments are needed, they are usually spaced several weeks apart. Many individuals use superficial peels as a way to refresh their skin and come in every few weeks or months.

Are chemical peels only for the face?

Most peels are designed for use on the face, but the Emory Aesthetic Center Spa also offers body peels. These peels are excellent for individuals with sun damage to the chest, back, arms or hands.

What type of peel does the Emory Aesthetic Center Spa typically use?

The Emory Aesthetic Center Spa favors ZO 3 Step Peel. This innovative, in-office peel is followed by an at-home treatment. Your cosmetic surgeon will explain the steps you need to follow during your consultation and treatment date. The ZO 3 Step Peel utilizes a blend of exfoliants, retinol and multi-action agents to help improve skin health and treat many signs of aging.

Do I need a consultation before I schedule an appointment for a peel?

We recommend a consultation for anyone interested in scheduling a chemical peel. This appointment gives you and one of our aesthetic providers the opportunity to discuss desired results, review your skincare routine and evaluate your needs. This allows us to better understand how many peels you may need, what areas to treat and the appropriate follow-up regimen to make your skin look and feel its best.
